Data Sanitisation

When the time comes to upgrade or replace your existing IT systems, you are faced with the thorny issue of the data held on your storage devices. This can range from personal address details to bank statements, invoice references and contract information; all data that you, as a company, have a legal duty of care to keep confidential. At Absolute IT, we are specialists in data sanitisation, whereby we safely remove all confidential data so that kit can be reused or recycled without risk.

What is data sanitisation?

Data sanitisation goes one step beyond simply ‘wiping’ a device, by actually eradicating the data files stored on it. A DIY approach does not meet the security needs of your customers or your responsibilities under data protection regulations, as without proper sanitisation, data can usually be extracted from a supposedly blank device.

Our data sanitisation services remove this risk by completely destroying all data from a device while giving you a full audit trail and waste hierarchy so you can be confident of data security at each stage.

There are two approaches we can take:

- Data cleaning:

If you wish to reuse an IT asset or sell it on, all the previously stored data has to be safely removed. At the same time, the physical device must obviously remain intact. We use the Blancco data erasure software platform, which is the fastest and most effective available on the market, to return any form of electronic device to a blank slate.

We provide both an [off-site] and an [on-site] data sanitisation service. Please follow these links for more details, or fill in the form on this page for a free quote.

- HDD Shredding

HDD shredding physically destroys the storage device so that the data is permanently inaccessible. We accommodate any storage device, from hard drives to magnetic backup discs, to floppy discs, optical discs and USB flash drives. We adhere to the strictest environmental standards in disposing and recycling your waste products, and a transparent audit trail covers each step of our process.

We can safely transport your devices off-site for destruction at our facility, or we can provide an on-site service. Please follow these links for more information, or get in touch for a quote.

Why data security is important

Data protection legislation places on businesses the full burden of responsibility for their customer’s data. Online fraud and identity theft are growing issues. Personal data from HDD’s, CDs, computers and paper documents can and does get misused by criminals to compromise a person’s identity and finances.

At Absolute IT, we understand all the requirements of data security and so can undertake these security measures on your behalf, giving you confidence that your duty of care to your customers has been met.
